Dreamer

While surrounded by pine trees and grass, I
lay on the ground watching the clouds roll pass,
wondering if a dreamer like me in
County Meath is watching the same formations.

Does he see the cowboy stretched across the
blue sky, snoozing with his hat and boots on
and his whip by his side? Or see a pig with
an apple in its mouth ready for dinner?

Does he wish to be states side like I
long to be in Eire. If we wish at the
same time, would our minds meld like Mr. Spock
and we magically transcend through the air?

As I lay there pining for my dream, I
begin to smell a sweet odor of moss
burning around me, though no fire burns.
And I smell sea mist when theres no sea at all.

I start to feel out of sorts, dizziness
overtakes me. Such a strange sensation.
Suddenly, Im damp with dew yet the grass
all around me is dry as a bone. Tis odd?

In the distance I hear a womans voice
say, Colin, the night air is settling,
bring in the sheep. I rise and look around
but I am alone. Who could that woman be?

I lay back down and close my eyes, but I
can not go to sleep. 3-D images
appear before me like a movie screen.
Disturbing it should all be, yet, Im serene.

I view the landscape through my dreamers eyes.
Watching in delight as he scans along
the countryside. He says, Heres your dream my
friend. Absorb all that you can before it ends.

As he calls for his sheep and his trusty
dog, he gives me a tour with verse and song.
A cute ditty made up just for me.
Im impress by his wits and the scenery.

Welcome to the land where the McLoones rule.
Farmers that we are, witty but no fools.
Proud that we are of our land of beauty,
the fairest place on earth as you can see.

Tis' Lough Finn, home of many a trout.
And there, the Bluestack Mountains in the clouds.
And on my left, the quaint town of Glenties
where lifes a delight and townsmen fain to please.

He walks along the railroad tracks, skimming
rocks across the lake. A horn blows, he turns
around and waves as the M16 leaves
us in its wake. How strange, a bus for a train?

I have never seen grass so green nor the
sunset deep crimson and violet. As
the sun sets, the rays shimmer off the lake
like facets of a diamond. Astonishing!

The day slowly ends and I feel myself
slipping away from this beautiful place.
Fight the feeling because I want to stay.
Useless. Oh, thank you Colin, I quickly say.

And just at that instant, when its neither
sunset nor sunrise, I return home in
a wink of an eye, feeling mesmerized.
Was it all a dream or was I really there?

Back to reality I dare to say.
This manifestation so vivid and
clear, made a deep impression that I will
forever hold dear as this dreamer dreams on.
